Education

We have had the privilege of attending various educational establishments with our livestock to provide hands on experiences to children of all ages, as part of the National Curriculum. Highlights have been using livestock to retell the nativity story as part of RE provision with KS1 pupils, taking lambs into primary schools to inspire creative writing about the farming seasons, and working with another local farmer to offer a session to KS2 students thinking about the provenance of food, from Sugar Beet to Pork and Lamb. We are currently unable to invite schools onto our grazing land, but hope to be able to offer this in the future.

Community

Being a part of the local community is important to us and we enjoy sharing our passion for agriculture whenever possible. It is a joy to have many footpaths around and through our grazing land, including a large environmental area with nature walk. We often encounter local people out walking, and enjoy sharing our passions for farming and sustainability. Alongside this, we enjoy engaging directly with the public such as by attending a spring family fun day, run by our local parish church, with some ewes and lambs for families to meet and interact with.

Therapeutic

We have seen the benefits animals and farming can bring in therapeutic settings with people of all ages and backgrounds. This was especially seen during a visit to a local care home for older adults living with dementia, who spent an afternoon enjoying interactions with the livestock, and discussing their own experiences of farming in the past.
